Art Gallery Courtyard/Parking Lot
Through a series of simple material shifts, a parking lot is transformed into a lush green court—an oasis from the busy adjacent commercial street and neighborhood. Custom parking details and green paving materials conceal its mandated program and allow it to become a platform for exhibitions, parties, stormwater treatment, and quiet moments. In one corner a single parking space is co-opted as a planter for a tree and succulents. The planting scheme is personal and textural, reflecting both the direction of the artist James Turrell and complementary selections by Office of Outdoor Research.
